Free Help for South Florida parents affected by Stroller recall

For those of you in the South Florida area having trouble reaching Maclaren or simply do not want to wait for the hinge covers to be mailed to you, there are locations in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach where you can have the hinge covers installed for free. http://www.tinyurl.com/yg6rga8.

Also, please check out this article that was posted about this event in a local South Florida newsletter.
http://www.tinyurl.com/yk4ny8r.

Of course, Strolling in Style is committed to providing the very best in customer service in the event of a stroller recall.

Maclaren has posted on their facebook page that the strollers are still safe to use, although please take precaution when folding the stroller. Be smart. Make sure that your baby's or child's hands are nowhere near the stroller when you are collapsing it. Also, if you are in South Florida please visit our store on Friday to have the repair done for free and to speak to a Maclaren representive about the recall. You can also order a repair kit online if you do not live in the area! Thanks for checking out these links.

Valco Ion and other Valco- new for 2010

I did say that my next blog post would be devoted to Valco, and therefore, I am going to take the time to try and do just that. I do hope I will be able to fill the space here with everything you want to know about the 2010 colors and new strollers available from Valco for the next model year
With the Ion, Valco has finally "made it" into that little nieche market of single and double full service strollers that fall into a lightweight category. With wheels and canopy and all the trimmin's, the Ion single weights in at 16 lbs and the Double weights the same as the city mini double, a mere 27lbs.

Of course, the Ion is soon-to-be car seat adaptable (Peg, Graco, Maxi and Chicco), and even has an innovative bassinet attachment for a newborn that turns the seat into a bassinet in an instant. Great option for twin newborns because you can buy two bassinet attachements and put them side by side (unheard of for a lightweight design). It is also a great option in single form, for someone who wants a bassinet without all the fuss of a hard cased bulky bassinet. The "egg" shape of the stroller is very modern and funky and the cool oval shaped handle bar greatly resembles the push bar on the Stokee, yet still maintains the ability to push with just one hand or a few fingers.
Of course, a single canopy isn't the most ideal. I do prefer separate sun canopies, especially for newborns with an older sibling, because parents may not need coverage over both children at the same time. However, the canopy has the new Valco EX feature, and is a truly full coverage canopy, great for sunny days in winter or summer. The shopping basket will not let you down either. It is big and spacious and most importantly, easy to access.
The fold is an easy two step process. What's great about the Ion as well is the larger 12" tires in the back and the single tires up front, make the overall profile of the stroller a bit taller than average. The back canopy includes two storage pouches, one of which is completely removable for extra ventilation and complete with a cell phone pocket. The accessory pack for the Ion includes the front bumper bar(s), and the raincover which make for a great value, seeing as most strollers these days come a-la-carte.

If you are looking for something different, something special in a side by side double, then the Ion could be an option for you. It is definitely worth checking out at the very least.
The Matrix, scheduled to be released this coming winter, is a slimmed down version of the single Tri-Mode. This will not be available in a double. The Matrix will weigh less, have a smaller different wheel and will be a bit more "zippy" than it's Tri-Mode counterpart. Also, the Quad scheduled to be released next Spring is a four wheel version of the Tri-Mode and is also a fully featured infant to toddler stroller. We are excited to learn more about these two strollers as they become available to us.

Again, more to come, as we update our lines for 2010.

Also, FYI we have just become an Orbit baby dealer. Strolling in Style now has 13 different stroller lines, with an option and price range to fit any families needs and budget. We are not an ordinary retail chain store. We do not steer. We are a family owned and operated boutique that strives to match every family with the perfect stroller to fit their needs and lifestyle. Call us for a consultation and we will prove to you that we are stroller experts.

Back and Soon to be Better than EVER

Wow! What a week. I can't believe it's been a few weeks since my last blog update. I am making a resolution to religiously update this blog at least once a week but we shall see how busy this month will be and how it will fly by me.

If you don't know already, we are undergoing two, yes count them, two expansions/renovations at Strolling In Style. One is our long awaited store expansion. We will be increasing our showroom space by another 1000 feet in the coming two weeks. We are busily working on the interior of the store to get it ready, so instead of blogging, I have been painting furiously! We are also renovating our website which is an ongoing process that will probably last until the year is out. As you know, between these two expansions, running a store full time, and a two year old who, as the lady at the supermarket yesterday remarked, "Wow, he's so cute, but my is he a handful!" life is greatly hectic right now.

I dream about strollers. I dream about writing this blog constantly. I have been so excited to finally find the time to update. Now where was I regarding the 2010 collection??

Ah, Bugaboo Red. Starting now and for 2010, Bugaboo will be donating 1% of all US sales to the RED campaign to support AIDS in Africa. How world concious! They are rolling out two special collection canopy sets, one for the Cameleon and one for the Bee. However these will only be available nationwide at Neiman Marcus. How sad! I would have loved to have these displayed in store. Of course, canopy sets can be ordered for $99 from them and you can get your rad Bugaboo Cameleon from Strolling In Style! Also, in 2010 Bugaboo news, soon the Bee will come in base only, and consumers will be able to choose their canopy color, just as with the Cameleon. However, the base will at this time, only be available in black. Production on the age-old and much loved Frog will continue thoroughout the 2010 year but will most likely be on it's way out after this which is sad because I love my Frog! But hopefully there will be new and better things to come from Bugaboo for 2011!

Now onto I'coo. The newly redesigned I'coo Targo has a new name as well. It will roll out for 2010 as the I'coo Pacific. I like the name. It makes me think (of course) of the great ocean and wide open spaces. The Pacific will have the I'coo Targo Chassis, plain and simple. They are making no changes at all to the stroller Chassis (frame) or wheels. So if you like the classic, classy look of the Targo, you are in luck. Also, if you love the original Targo seat and bassinet you are in luck because the company will still produce and sell both models of the stroller.

The change that the german company I'coo made for the 2010 Pacific, lies in the seat and bassinet. This is the best part so listen closely:

The bassinet on the Pacific converts to the seat and back. What does this mean? It means that no longer do you have a frame, a seat fabric and a bassinet fabric to deal with (as with the Bugaboo, which the Targo was most similar to). The stroller will come with a one stop shop kit that makes it incredibly easy to convert from bassinet to seat and back again without having to switch the fabric out ever or even take the darn thing off the chassis.

Sounds familiar, right? That's because the Peg Perego Skate touted this design when it first rolled out. However, consumers complained of the bulkiness and weight of this type of design, eventually causing Peg Perego to toss this idea out the window. SO what makes the Pacific think it can do this any better?

Actually I'coo made it more simple. It is really easy to accomplish the conversion. Simply recline the seat fully and disengage a series of clips on the back and footrest. The bassinet is more shallow then the Targo bassinet, and there is no chrome look to the frame, which equals less weight on the seat/bassinet as well. Although I am a self proclaimed stroller ace (sorry guys I work with these products daily) it took me less than three minutes to change to the bassinet and then to the seat. It shouldn't take the average mom more than two or three tries to get it right. I know ease when I see it! Also, the seat/bassinet is lightweight making folding the stroller in one piece and lifting it into the car not a breeze, but at least manageable at 23 lbs complete. Of course you can take the seat off and fold the stroller itself as well.

Great news as well, is that the canopy extends out more than the Targo canopy, which usually fell short for our South Florida Sun.

I myself love the Targo Chassis, but was never a huge fan of the bassinet/seat arrangement. The bassinet always felt heavy and bulky, and the seat seemed clunky to me as well. I am hugely excited to view and put my hands on the the actual product of the I'coo Pacific and not a prototype. If I'coo and GT baby can pull this off, it might just be a big hit for 2010 at a great price point for a good quality bassinet stroller kit.

I promised Valco this time, but of course you need something to look forward to, right??

Happy Strolling!

Sorry folks. Yesterday got the better of me and I was entirely jet-lagged from Vegas. Besides that my dear, lovely, wonderful two year old was up at 5:30 am two days in a row and we were swamped with work yesterday (which is a good thing!!) Excuses, excuses...

As promised, I am committed to going through what we saw in Vegas (not revealing any industry secrets) but I will tell you as much as I think I am allowed to. Here it goes.

Our first appointment on day 1 of the show was to see the all new Baby Jogger City Select, which I was eager to see as of course, it was the subject of my pre-show blog after seeing the the advertisement for the stroller in Preg and Newborn mag. Baby Jogger has followed in line with some other great companies who've created single chassis, two seaters including Uppababy and Phil and Teds. This modern 21st century tandem stroller is seriously the future of the double stroller. By single chassis I mean, one single stroller that weighs the same, same width, same everything as let's say, your Bugaboo, yet can accommodate two kids, including two toddlers, a newborn and a toddler, two newborns...heck, any combination you can think of, and with sixteen different customized choices to fit your family, Baby Jogger has seriously thought of everything with the City Select.

Of course, I loved that immediately after we entered the booth, the president of Baby Jogger, a cool dad, who actually designed the City Select himself (as well as all the other City strollers- remember, stroller engineers are usually really, really uber-smart Ivy League school grads) came up to us and did the demo on the stroller for us himself. To me, I was incredibly impressed by the attention we received from the company. He actually mentioned to my husband, who is also my most valued employee, that his first concept for the stroller was on a napkin at a restaurant, so all you folks that have ideas hit you when you're out and about with your kids, do this. Find a napkin and a pen because apparently, it works.

Therefore, I have to say that the prototype for the City Select was very cool. The chassis comes in somewhere in the heavier-than-25-but-lighter-than-30 range, quite light for a double. The fold was incredibly easy and definitely in line with the other Baby Jogger strollers. The stroller can be folded with the front seat on, so it is convenient for suburban moms. However, as I mentioned, there are other single chassis double strollers out there, but the design on the City Select is completely different than anything in the industry. First off, the mechanism that fits the adapter for the second seat/car seat/bassinet is on the top of the front wheel, instead of on the actual frame, making installation of the second seat/carseat/bassinet, incredibly quick and easy. The car seat adapter was made to still fit over fourteen different makes of car seats. What's also cool is, the two stroller seats are the exact same seat, compared to the other companies that make the second seat a different size and shape. The wheels are no-flat! I love the practical option for a toddler seat and bassinet, or a toddler seat and car seat. Of course the seats can either face you or away. Moms of twins will love the two car seat option. Look for the City Select at Strolling In Style and www.strollinginstyle.com in January of 2010. It will retail for $499 base (chassis +seat). Other options include bassinet, and car seat adapters. The stroller will come in black, red or off-white.

Also in Baby Jogger news, a new color City Mini, the new Scarlet/Grey, has arrived and should be available in store and online very soon. A car seat adapter for the Chicco car seat will soon be available for the City Mini as well. And bad news for those City classic fans, it will be discontinued for the 2010 production year.

Later on that day, we visited the most awesome brand ambassador in the entire world (hope she reads this too) over at Phil & Teds most excellent buggy company!

The world has been awaiting the Smart buggy from Phil and Teds and it will finally be released first quarter of 2010. Here is the scoop on the Smart Buggy. Think of it as a small, lightweight, four wheel version of the vibe. Same chromed out frame and black to chrome contrast. However, the canopy of the Smart is made entirely of Lycra! Definitely innovative. The seat is not lined in cloth but in a rubbery type material, although the new "cushy ride" accessory from P &T will be an optional addition. A Peanut bassinet is available from P &T for the Smart, as well as car seat options for Graco, Peg Perego and Chicco, although I'm not sure which will come first and in what succession they will be released. The Smart Buggy is definitely the buggy for the urban mother, who travels by car and public transit and needs an easy quick compact fold and a lightweight zippy ride. The Phil and Teds Smart Buggy is definitely smart for mom's in any urban or suburban area. One more plus for the Smart- the larger than umbrella stroller wheels will allow city moms to easily maneuver cracks in sidewalks.

In other P &T news, production for the Hammerhead Buggy, once scheduled to be released this coming October has been pushed back. The four-wheel all terrain buggy by P &T will be very similar to the Sport, and will have two front wheels instead of one. It will be available in black and red, hopefully by next Spring.

My fingers are sore and my store needs attention so goodbye until next time when I will cover Bugaboo "red", Valco and I'coo!

I'm not sure where to begin. There is so much to tell about our time in Las Vegas at the 2009 ABC Convention. It went by in a whirlwind and there was so much to see and so little time that of course, I had absolutely no time to blog/tweet/or facebook. We were so swamped and at the end of the day all we wanted was to go to the hotel and sleep it off!

Now that we are back I can get serious about everything we saw and let all of you in on the best kept industry secrets! Lucky you, if you read my blog this week...

Of course, I can't write everything today. I am going to break up my blogging into daily snippets. There is no other way, because if I tried to write everything here it would end up being a fifty page blog which I highly doubt you want to sit through in one reading. Face it, you're busy moms (or dads) and this will make it easier on all of us!

This is how I will break up my blogging.

Days 1 and 2: Here, I will focus on the current brands we carry and what is coming for 2010. I will review the Baby Jogger City Select (yes I saw it!), the Phil and Teds Smart Buggy and Hammerhead, the Bugaboo "red" campaign, as well as the new Valco Ion and Matrix; I'll cover the newly redesigned I'coo Targo and Peg Perego Skate, and the all new redesign on the Bob Revolution.

Day 3: I will let you in on what new lines we will take into the store for late 2009 to 2010.

Day 4: I will focus on new stroller accessories, including new branded accessories for 2010!

Thanks for reading and check back tomorrow! Happy Strolling!

Baby Jogger City Select and the quest for a single to double tandem stroller

I just happened to be in the bookstore in the local mall yesterday night with my two year old and my husband. My two year old was, for once, well fed and quietly looking at a magazine with pictures of dogs. I picked up the newest Preg and Newborn mag and- low and behold-I come across this add for the all new Baby Jogger City Select.

Wait one moment. A stroller that I don't even know existed? How is that possible? I thought I knew everything that was out there... See pictures above. I was a bit floored. Here is my honest opinion.

The City Select seems too good to be true. Sure, it looks like the tandem double every mom of multiples or mom of two dreams about. Two car seats, bassinet and toddler seat, two toddler seats and about fourteen other combinations all of which are customized. Also, speaking of a single to double tandem, a few months back I saw a picture of Rebecca Romijn pushing her twins in what looked like a single stroller with two car seats at staggered heights. It looked and pushed like a single. The city select is "almost" the same as Rebecca's, except it looks like it has two front wheels. Rebecca's had one and the car seats were facing away.

The reason I'm a skeptic about the BJ City Select is that I have absolutly no specs. How much does this bad boy weigh, how small does it fold, how wide is it, how big are the seats, what is the weight limit. is it user-friendly for us moms?? So many questions that I must have answered.
The worst part is, I dislike how secretive BJ is about this one (I'm sure they are going to make a huge to-do about it this weekend in Vegas). I mean, I am a Baby Jogger dealer. I own and operate a stroller specialty store and had no idea, pricing, or information on the stroller... I had to find out about it in a magazine add. I wish BJ was more open with retailers....we can keep secrets too!

The only other stroller the City Select compares with is the iCandy Apple/Pear/Peach, which is coming to the states this fall. The i-candy sports the same, single to double chassis with many customizable options. It is now the test to see which one is built to withstand, and which one makes more sense in this market. The price on the City Select I saw on one website was $499, but that must be for the single chassis and seat, and of course the other items such as car seat adapters, bassinet, extra seat, etc are optional. The iCandy will most likely be in a higher price range but that is yet to be determined.

More to come on the City Select and the iCandy after the ABC show this weekend...

Phil and Teds Peanut on the Vibe. Just had to post a couple of pics in case anyone wanted to see it. It is in store and on display and I assure you that it is beautiful. With the seat off, it is even sweeter, and it's not even that hard to do. Come on in for a demo! I just love Phil and Teds. So beautiful, so practical.
We are headed to Las Vegas for the All Baby and Child Show (formerly JPMA) in a few weeks. This is the show that all other shows bow down to. Imagine, anything and everything you would ever need or want for baby in display in one giant place! Of course, we are headed straight there to find the newest and most awesome, super, incredible, spectacular strollers and accessories for the store. Every best brand in the industry is bringing their finest, and we will also be able to get a sneak peak on the 2010 collection of some brands and their accessories. Can you believe in just a few short months it will be 2010??
Of course, we have twelve amazing brands but we are still looking for some industry changing, innovative, and practical strollers for our South Florida moms and the store. It's amazing how the needs of our customers in this area are so varied, yet so alike at the same time.
Also, we are going to be searching for some new registry accessories including possibly, shopping cart covers. If there are any suggestions on other items that you think we might want to carry or you would like to see us carry, please email me at info@strollinginstyle.com and let me know!
Check out our new album on facebook! http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/album.php?aid=105265&id=40362206951 Also please note that our Twitter has changed to StrollinInStyle!
It has been a rainy few days in South Florida! Hopefully that means a change in the seasons. Definitely can't wait for fall! It was one long, hot, steamy summer.
Happy Strolling!

Peanut anyone?

Well it is August and we were promised a sneak peak at the brand new and highly secretive Phil and Teds Peanut and P & T didn't let us down! We are pleased to announce that the Peanut is almost here, and it is awesome.

If you own a Phil and Teds stroller, the Peanut may make you incredibly happy because it makes a great addition to your stroller for a new addition to the fam. If you arn't a Phil and Teds head, the Peanut might sway you towards future ownership of a Vibe, Dash or Sport buggy. Because face it. Everyone wants to put their baby in an adorable sweet bassinet and the Peanut is just that, an adorable sweet bassinet that fits right onto your stroller, enabling you to coo at your sweet little...peanut? Now taking special orders, or come on in soon and see this sweet little Peanut for yourself.

Not to mention that Phil and Teds is so smart, and thinks about everything. As a mother, I honestly appreciate that! The reason why I'm saying all this is that P &T decided to offer a sheet set for the peanut. The three piece sheet set will sell for around $25 and will keep your peanut mattress fresh and clean!

In other very exciting news from Phil and Teds, now available are the new Cushy ride stroller liners in awesome colors includinng pink, light blue, olive and yellow, which fit directly into the Vibe! What a great way to customize your stroller by getting a different color for the front and the doubles kits! Also, P & T has many new products to come for the 2010 line which will be showcased at this years ABC show in Vegas. Don't know if I've mentioned this yet but yes, Strolling In Style will be there to take a look at the latest and greatest!

I did promise a review on the Joovy Kooper in my last blog post, so here it goes!

Joovy Kooper

If you want a lightweight stroller at a great price, you have a lot of options, but if you want a stylish lightweight at a great price, you will love the Kooper. The Kooper has many distant relatives, including the Valco/TFK buggster, and the Quinny Zapp. Both of these strollers are similar in design to Koop. Koop has a beautiful chrome frame, and wheels more similar to a sturdy four wheeler than a lightweight umbrella.

One thing you definitely notice when you push the Kooper is how light it feels in the push, and the cushy foam handles which even has finger and thumb grooves so the push is ultra comfy. For a smaller stroller the underbasket is quite large. The extended sunshade is very sufficient, even for us here in South FL. What I also love about the stroller is that Joovy really had the toddler in mind when designing this stroller. The seat is wide and deep, creating a cozy space for a larger child and the two toddler seat pockets (similar to those on the BOB) can keep your toddler well stocked for the road. As far as folding, it folds easy and small. The weight is more substantial then the umbrella stroller competitors, but then again, the Kooper is alot more than an umbrella stroller.

Best of all, the Kooper sells at a great price point. Come in and take a look, we promise you'll be surprised by what Joovy has to offer.

Happy Strolling guys!

Pure Joy Collection - 10% off
All non branded stroller accessories- 10% off
All Blankets clearance priced

Ok, on to the latest and greatest news for the store. If you do not already know, we have been strolling on for eight months! This summer has brought many blessings for us, in the names of Graco, Peg Perego, Baby Jogger and Car seats. We brought Baby Jogger in May which was absolutely wonderful, and of course we were up the air as to what new line we would choose for the store. We were going to hold off until we saw what was going on at ABC in September, but Joovy sort of just kicked our rears into gear! So that's how it happened and now Strolling In Style is the latest and greatest Joovy retailer in the US!

Joovy is of course known for their Caboose which is a sit and stand style stroller. Basically it works like this. For moms who waited around until baby #1 was able to wipe the drool off his own chin (oh, around 3 1/2 years) to have baby #2 Joovy created the perfect solution. The Caboose (we took the Ultralight version for the store which is about 21 lbs compared to 27 or so on the original) can hold an infant car seat, and also totes a bench style seat with three point harness for older bro or sis. Older bro or sis can also stand on the platform beneath the bench seat and hold on using the two hand rubbery grips located on either side of the bench seat.

Of course this is a new style stroller for Strolling In Style. Number one, we have insane amounts of double strollers but this is our only "Sit and Stand" line.

Who is the Joovy Ultralight Caboose perfect for? Well, the perfect candidate for this stroller is again as mentioned, the mom with an older child over 3 1/2. Preferably this older child is a) no longer interested in their stroller, or sitting in a stroller b) finds the idea of sitting on the bench or standing on a board "fun and exciting" c) Is willing to sit or stand without having to be conived with candy. If your older child meets these requirements, then you are set to go.

What are the pros of the Ultralight Caboose? Many. Seriously, Joovy has created the Sit and stand stroller with an incredibly surprising smooth ride. The ball bearings on the stroller are serious. It rides and glides very easily. Also, thumbs up to Joovy for creating a simply EASY stroller to stick your infant car seat on and also your three year old without having to tote around a huge double stroller. Think, snap and go with a great place for your other kid to feel comfortable! Convenient? Absolutely.

The Ultralight Caboose makes an great double stroller (if your kid happens to meet the above requirements) but it also makes a specatcular secondary stroller (think mall, quick trips) FOR EVERYDAY USE! Also, including in the amazing price (under $300) is the cool looking neoprene organizer, car seat adapter, rain cover and snack tray! And the Ultralight Caboose has a sleek modern design that actually looks really stylish.

Cons? If any, the stroller seat is not suitable for infants under six months. Therefore, when using the Caboose baby #2 must be in the car sear seat until about 6 months. Most infant car seats are still being used at 6 months so this shouldn't be a problem! Also, the seat only has two positions, so if you have a stroller napper, this might not be enough of a recline.

Seems like the pros outweight the cons? Come and see for yourself! The Joovy Ultralight Caboose is available at Strolling In Style now!

Happy Strolling!

ps...Joovy also makes a Big Caboose. Think newborn twins and a toddler!

pps...coming soon, review on Joovy Kooper, also available now at SIS!

JFK airport and stroller watching...

So there I am at JFK airport, finding myself on a short weekend trip to long island for family reasons, and I can't do anything but stroller watch! I had a lot of time before I had to catch my flight back home to Boca so I set up camp in the center terminal with my laptop, and a box of pizza, convinced that I would tweet about every single stroller that walked past me. If you don't already know, we are StrollingOn (Strolling In Style) at Twitter. Follow us!

Unfortuantly that day (it was a Monday) it didn't seem like many people were traveling at all! Perhaps they had already arrived home from their trips or weren't leaving until the next weekend but it seemed like Monday was a reeally slow day for traveling with children, or at least stroller aged children.

I only ended up with five tweets. Here they are.

Tweet 1- Off to NYC today (JFK airport) wonder what strollers I'll see out and about! (how very optimistic of me)

Tweet 2- Seems like everyone's travel stroller is the trusted and reliable Maclaren Quest, So Many of these in the airports. Also, city mini! ( as you probably know you can't write too much in a tweet, so these are rather short. Did see a bajillion Quest strollers at JFK all different colors and model years. Most gorgeous by far was an '09 Charcoal/Silver Quest with Silver comfort pack. And the City mini moms were obviously so happy with their strollers.)

Tweet 3- Stroller watching at JFK airport. So far, Baby Jogger City Mini, Quinny Zapp, Maclaren Quest... ( Not too familiar with the Zapp but it seemed like a sturdy travel strollers. Only saw this one once.)

Tweet 4- Oh my, there goes a Yellow Bugaboo Bee! ( as you can tell, I was rather excited by this.)

Tweet 5 (I am giving up here, as it has been nearly 45 minutes since a stroller worth speaking about has gone by.)- Bugaboo Cameleon at 12 o clock. Phew, ok it seems as if my stroller watching is over, now all I'm seeing on wheels are airport wheelchairs and rolling suitcases!

Wish I had a bit more action for my grand stroller watching session. Ah well! So it goes in the land of the stroller obsessed.

We are working very hard here at Strolling In Style and it has been a great summer so far! We are very proud to have figured out how the Peg Perego car seat fits on every single stroller in the store that it is compatable with. Feel free to call with any questions! We turned 7 months old this month and are so excited to be right in the thick of the second half of our first amazing year!

Friday, July 3, 2009

So Friday is here again! How does that happen so quickly?!?

Happy Fourth of July everyone! Hopefully everyone will have a beautiful day and stay safe tomorrow. We will be open and working until 3 pm. No rest for the stroller obsessed, as they say!

In new stroller news, we have just received our shipment of '09 Peg Perego Pliko Switch strollers! A little about the Pliko Switch. It is the Pliko P3 reinvented. According to my sources (which are mostly reliable) the kind folks at Peg Perego actually listened to their customers reviews and comments on how to make the Pliko better. One common problem was that moms wanted to be able to reverse the seat, allowing them to see and interact with their baby. So Peg Perego redesigned a Pliko (they still sell and do well with the Pliko P3), and called it the Pliko Switch!

Now, the seat clicks on and off easily and reverses to face towards and away from mom. What I like about the seat is that it isn't very heavy, and is easily removable. It also folks accordian style for easy storage. What I like about the actual concept of the Pliko Switch is that the car seat (Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30 only) attaches directly onto the stroller chassis, making it behave like a relatively lightweight snap and go. This way, you don't have to lug the heavy stroller seat around with you when you are only going to use the car seat option.

The fold is umbrella style as usual for the Pliko's and the seat miraculously folds in either the forward or away facing position, something that is unheard of for mostly every stroller in the reversible seat market (barring the Bugaboo Bee which does just this and beautifully so.) It does stand when folded! The price is nice, dropping in at $499. The stroller has a wide sun canopy and extendible handles for taller pushers. A great, deep underbasket finishes the Switch off.

All in all, there are many options for the reversible seat, fully functional infant to toddler travel system but it would suffice to say that the Peg Perego Pliko Switch is a great option, at a price that is marginally manageable. Right now, it is only available in red, gray and moka and it would do well to be spiced up with a colorful plush stroller liner.

In other stroller related news, we are very excited to hear from Phil and Teds that we will be surprising the world with a few brand new products in their line that will be available next year. This makes my heart skip since we already know about the hammerhead, the smart buggy and lobster and peanut, so what can it be? Also, the Vibe buggy should finally be car seat adaptable as of this coming month (chicco only) and we will be sure to let you know when this is available for purchase. We have also received our new shipment of Valco Tri Mode twin EX strollers. Apparantly, the EX stands for the new extendible canopies allowing for more sun coverage!

Well, happy fourth of July again to you and yours. Isn't freedom amazing?

Happy Strolling- while watching those fireworks!

Car seat adapters and a stroller finding saga solved...

This seems to be the season for baby showers.

I have been to two in two weeks...I actually have another one to go to on Sunday! It seems like so many moms are due between May and August! The baby shower today was for a friend of mine who has a son a little older than my own 22 mo old. She is having a little girl this time and needless to say, she got ALOT of little girl clothes!

So following up from my post a number of weeks ago, "City Mini Double vs. Valco Latitude for two" my friend finally decided on the Valco Latitude! So far, the feedback is great. Here are here comments from facebook...

"thank YOU so much for spending so many hours with my husband and I going over all the different strollers in your store. You really listened to us and helped us find the BEST ONE!"

and...

"The ValcoBaby Latitude double stroller from Strolling In Style... check it out! The stroller is small and smart and makes sense!"

So far, so good! She is happy about being able to get through aisles even in the crowded, overstuffed Marshalls near her house. Also she is not reporting any problems opening, closing or getting it in and out of her car by herself. Plus, the shopping basket is huge. She had it overstuffed when I saw her, and it was able to handle her diaper bag, plus groceries and enormous amounts of stuff...so that is the happy ending to this stroller-finding saga. In her exact words, the Valco baby Latitude for two, just might be one of the most perfect double strollers out there, despite the immense popularity of it's arch nemesis the Baby Jogger City Mini Double which is still a couple of pounds lighter! For more information and a complete detailed comparison, see the "City Mini double vs. Valco Latitude post."

Also, since our last post, we have recieved our shipment of Peg Perego car seats. Because of this, I have proceeded to take every Peg Perego car seat adapter in this store out of it's respective package to try it out on every Peg adaptable stroller. Here is what I have found. You might have also seen my updates on twitter (StrollingOn) about my car seat adapter research...

  • Car seats change the way a stroller feels and pushes, often making a lighter stroller heavier and more cumbersome to push.

  • Because of their high profile, car seats add a certain level of blindspot to the front end of a stroller. Depending on how high up the Chassis is, the car seat can sit quite high on some strollers (to me, they always make the stroller seem taller.)

  • Car seat adapters that connect directly to the chassis such as the Bugaboo and UPPAbaby are extremely convenient and make the stroller easier to push overall.

  • Car seat adapters that connect on top of the seat do have the advantage of allowing user to shield sun from baby with stroller canopy.

So, what are the advantages of using a car seat adapter for your infant car seat carrier?

Never having to wake up a sleeping baby for one! There are so many positives of being able to take your infant car seat carrier out of the car and place it directly into the stroller...so many ins and outs from the car in those first few weeks! The short time that the car seat changes your strollers overall persona is worth this convenience. Soon enough, baby will outgrow the carrier and you will have no choice but to wake them. In my opinion, parents should enjoy the car seat adapter stage while they can!

Happy Strolling!

Car seats are a-coming...

So the good news is we just became the lastest Peg Perego dealer! This means that finally, after six long months, we will be able to provide our customers with the one thing that is a must have for their car seat adaptable stroller...a car seat! And Peg Perego just happens to be a leader in the car seat industry offering safe infant car seat carriers that baby will be comfortable in for at least the first year.

Of course, now that we are a Peg dealer, we must consider carrying some of Peg Perego's strollers, right? It's just that we can't decide! Should we go with the ultra stylish but heavy and cumbersome Skate? Or the trusted and admired Pliko P3? What about the Pliko Switch with reversible seat or the Uno with reversible handle? Or the new and lightweight Si? Any suggestions as to what you would like to see? We really, really need the help.

Next on our list is getting the Graco Snugride into Strolling In Style and then we'll be good to go in the car seat category!

Well, what a super stressful weekend we had! Of course, the story goes that it is Murphy's law...when you plan for a relaxing, stress free morning, you get anything but! Last Saturday dear husband of mine took the key to the store, without realizing he had it of course, and bolted out to go to a boys day out. As my two year old was staying for the weekend with his grandparents, It was my chance to have a stress free morning and maybe even go to Starbucks, and relax with some Wifi before I opened the store at ten. Right? Wrong. Without realizing that he had the key, I made it halfway to get my latte when I realized I didn't have it. Of course, DH had to leave the I-Phone in his car, and wasn't answering my calls. Half an hour into this mess, the locksmith finally arrived and he had me open, albeit an hour and a half late. Not a great way to start a weekend! Since, I've had DH make me two spare keys to leave in our house, but I still feel terrible about opening late last Saturday so if you were here, I deeply apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks and Happy Strolling.

Latitude Versus Mini?

Taking a hard look at the Valco Latitude last weekend with a dear, dear friend of mine who has just given birth to her second child (we both have two year olds) and she is looking for a double stroller that she can handle herself. She is on the petite side and can't see lifting the beautiful Bumbleride Indie Twin all terrain in and out of her car fives a day. I can't blame her, but in my case I would probably do it anyways just to have it! That's just me being stroller obsessed....

Said friend has a husband who is an engineer and after basically taking the Phil and Teds Sport and putting it back together in the store, has decided that it's not as perfect as his wife (my friend) described it to be and wanted to look at more options. As she had her heart completely set on the Sport, finding another option wasn't easy.

Of course, the City Mini double was an option, but the long footrest and fabric covering threw her off. Of course, the weight and fold are excellent, the seats are comfy and the sun coverage is super. Function wise, the City Mini covers every base, but as far as style, there was a bit to be desired in her book. (She has to be seen around town with the thing, doesn't she? This is Boca...By the way, engineer husband loved the City Mini. So did her three week old who snoozed away in the seat!)

I had pointed out the Latitude twin to her in the store a few times, but it wasn' t until she really pushed it that she decided it could be for her. Why is that? When you stand behind this double you seriously do not feel that you are pushing a double stroller so for someone petite like her, that is score one. Two, it is managable for one person, without feeling like you are driving a truck. Score three, it turns easily, folds easily (well, sort of, once you get the hang of it although it can take more than a few tries to learn) and is not extremely heavy (30lbs, not bad!)

I was more than happy to foster this newfound relationship between her and the Valco Latitude for Two. My only complaint about it is the car seat adapter. The adapter is a bit senseless, since you have to take the stroller canopy off to use the adapter. The adapter comes with another "temporary" canopy that can be used for the other seat, but my complaint is that it takes away from the style of the stroller! Moms want the stroller to look as beautiful with or without the car seat on it. Of course, this is all only temporary because the car seat stage is so short and the original canopy does make it back on eventually. However, a mom coming out of the six week or so fog between giving birth to her second child and actually making it out to the mall, wants to feel like a million bucks pushing her new double stroller. The adapter with temporary canopy is just not stylish, it's just not!

I wish Valco (hint, hint) found a way to make the adapter more simple, either with some sort of clip on the side of the chrome frame, or by making it compatible with the front bar (which comes with the stroller already) allowing the canopy to stay put.

However, lets say you have twins (excellent stroller for twins) or you are not using the car seat adapter, which, back to my dear friend, she was not since her car seat isn't even compatible, the Valco Latitude is an excellent double and a stylish alternative to the City Mini. The frame is chromed out, the seats have nice blue/green or clay colored accents. It comes with a few accessories which the mini does not, and has a larger basket and double adjustable footrests. It has a height adjustable telescopic handle as well. There are so many wonderful things about the Valco Latitude Twin that I suppose we can overlook it's flaws.

By the way, my friend still hasn't decided on her stroller! Let you know if it's the Latitude, Mini or even the P&T Sport (perhaps she'll convince her husband!)

Happy Strolling!
By the way, the Valco Latitude for Two above is shown in Clay!

Padalilys (and Car seats too!)

One of our favorite car seat accessories out there is the Padalily. You may or may not know that these are out there, but if you have ever taken a car seat to and fro, you know that the rubber handle (you know, the one that usually digs into your inner elbow) is a killer! Many a mum has rubbed her red, pulled skin after lugging the baby around in a carrier. The Padalily, invented by a mom, is a soft cushion that velcro's around the handle of the car seat so as to save your inner elbows from grief. Plus, the Padalily's are entirely reversible, so it's like having two in one! The padded design, and soft fabrics will eliminate the ouch, and add the oooh-ahh to your expereince with the infant car seat carrier.

The Padalily comes in adorable colors and designs including Blue Coco Disco Dot, Divine Damask, and Pink Paisley. Look for more great PadaLily's soon!

Bringing me into my next discussion, as you may know if you have visited our store, we are lacking in one specific stroller accessory that many, many folks need for a new baby. A car seat! Just to let anyone know who is looking to buy both a stroller and a car seat in the same place, we are looking to be your one stop stroller/car seat shoppe by the end of June! The addition of car seats to our line will allow us to display the stroller with the car seat for the customer, giving an idea of exactly how the stroller moves with the car seat adapter. Also, we will be able to show exactly how the car seat adapters work!

In addition to the Padalily, the other neccessary car seat accessory to dress up your ride is a pure joy collection car seat cover. At $89.99, the car seat covers are a great price to add a bit of class and design to your infant car seat carrier. They are a great accessory if you are using big brother or big sisters old seat as well; give your car seat new life! These are available on our website, under "dress up my ride". Any of the Pure Joy liners, you can also chose to have made into car seat covers for the Graco Snugride, or Peg Perego Primo Viaggio!

City Mini Update!

Somehow I can't believe that I have seriously only blogged twice this month. Goes to show how busy we get! You can always follow our "microblogging" on Twitter usename "StrollingOn." We generally put out one tweet a day so you can catch up on our doings that way!

In case you didn't know already (because it's all I can talk about for the past few weeks) Strolling In Style is the newest Baby Jogger dealer. At this time we will only be carrying the City Mini and City mini double. We will be gradually adding these to our website this week!

The City Mini is Baby Jogger's creation of a lightweight stroller with style! It is an "urban terrain" stroller, meaning that it is not a jogging stroller, but will do well in the mall and on the playground! The double weighs only 26.3 lbs and is less than 30" wide! The single weights less than 17 lbs! The '09 City Mini comes in the following great colors; orange/grey, green/grey, black, red/black and stone/black!

We are also carrying just about every accessory under the sun for the City Mini including rain cover, mosquito net, child tray, belly bar, travel bags and more!

Remember, our Pure Joy Collection stroller liner can be special ordered to fit either the City Mini or the Bob Revolution. Specify either Universal, City Mini, or Bob when ordering online! The price is still $65.95 for any Pure Joy Collection Stroller Liner. Speaking of which, we just got a whole new shipment and they are all incredibly gorgeous! Some great new boy patterns, look for an update on the website soon!

Another new Diaper bag by Reese Li has been spotted in our store, the new Madison Messanger in Green Tea Bloom and the Lexington Tote in Linen Dynasty. As soon as we find our camera, we will upload pics of these beauties!

Take care and Happy Strolling!

Spring into Summer

It has been a great month here at Strolling In Style and it seems that spring is turning to summer way too quickly. So many little babies being born, big brothers and sisters being made...it is so much fun to share in the happiness of each of our customers as they start and grow their families.

That being said, exciting things are happening in the store. We are proud to announce that soon we will be adding a new line of strollers to our collection. We have become the latest authorized dealer of Baby Jogger! We are adding the city mini and city mini double to our line. It will be great to have these in our showroom and we can't wait! Also, look for infant car seats here at SIS, we are hoping to have these in by mid to late June.

In other news, we have a new diaper bag in the store and we feel like blogging about it! The Pyknyk Paris Romance diaper bag is one of the hottest new diaper bags to hit the market. Not only does it look absolutely gorgeous hanging on a stroller, but it is jam packed with so many thoughtful accessories.

For instance, the Pyknyk bag features a zip down changing pad that is actually attached to the bag! This makes carrying around a changing pad so much more convenient (think about it, you don't have to fold it and stuff it somewhere in your already full bag.) When the changing pad is zipped up, it acts as a pocket for diapers and other odds and ends (or your little laptop perhaps?) The bag comes with an insulated bottle holder, a pacifier and key loop and enough pockets to fit four bottles comfortably.

Besides that, the bag is so stylish that it looks like a designer purse! If you arn't into the "baby bag" and want something that will match everything and looks great, but still is functional for your baby and your life, we love Pyknyk. Check out the picture! By the way, the bag comes in red and black.

In other news, the showroom is looks happy for Spring! My favorite color of the season is the Bumbleride Seagrass and the Bugaboo Blue. Check out the latest album on facebook!http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/album.php?aid=80058&id=40362206951

Also, don't forget to follow us on twitter. Our twitter is called "StrollingOn." 21 Followers and counting. Aiming for a hundred before long!

Out on the Street Again!

On April 25th, Strolling In Style, in association with Stroller Strides of Boca Raton was able to raffle off a Stroller Strides BOB Revolution to benefit the March of Dimes. The raffle raised over $500 dollars for the organization.

While at the event, the March for Babies, we were honored to meet so many babies who had fought for their lives as preemies and were now thriving and healthy thanks to the organization. Of course with so many babies there, it was obvious that there were some beautiful strollers!

My favorite of the day was the Red Bugaboo Frog with parasol, followed closely by the Bumbleride Flyer in Seagrass. I did see a Baby Jogger City Mini and a Baby Jogger City Series elite double as well! The BOB 12" AW looked great, and there was a blue BOB Sport Utility stroller somewhere in there as well!

It was exciting to see so many strollers out at once, all in support of such a great cause!

Maclaren GTLX

The Maclaren GTLX is here!

The brand new Grand Tour LX is a hybrid multi-terrain stroller by Maclaren, a trusted leader in strollers since the 1960's. Whilst Maclaren is known for their A-frame, umbrella fold strollers, they have leapt head first into this fully-loaded, full featured, luxury infant to toddler stroller. IN short, the Grand Tour LX is for parents who want it all in one convenient package.

The Grand Tour LX, which I will call the GTLX for short, has many features you will not find on any stroller in today's market. Here are a few:

Safety lights. The GTLX has safety lights located below the front swivel wheels. These lights are activated by a switch under the footplate and can be operated with a remote control which is included. The LED lights will give out a continuous bright white glow, flash red and green, or flash red, white and green. Safety lights allow for more night visibility to see your baby.

Console. The GTLX console is an outstanding marvel. The console consists of a timepiece, a temperature gauge and a strollometer. The Strollometer allows you to measure distance with every step and is easily calibrated. The conosle also consists of a phone/glasses holder, always allowing for easy access at your fingertips.

Nano-Tex. The stroller fabric is Nano-tex, making it UV treated, water resistant and even fire resistant. The Nano-Tex fabric makes the stroller unbelievably protected from the sun.

SO that is only a few of the amazing things that make the GTLX so edgy and unique, putting it at the top of today's market. Plus, the ticket price isn't bad, considering the amount of accessories that are included in the price of the stroller. Watch for it on our site in the next few days, and you'll see what we mean.

It's been awhile since our last post, but boy have we been busy! Our store is expanding and making the most of the space we have hasn't been the easiest process, but things are looking great!

In accessory news, we have new stroller organizers from Carry You, including the double stroller organizer which works great on the Maclaren Twin Techno and other side by side twin strollers! We of course have the Torino jogging organizer for jogging strollers and all the velcro-on snack trays for the bugaboo, phil and teds, UPPAbaby and other strollers with front bars. We have the demi milan organizer for umbrella strollers as well. An organizer from Carry You is a great way to add extra storage to your stroller and the soft cup holders are great for sippy cups, water bottles, and even your iced latte! Also, we are adding some stroller toys to our collection so watch out for those! Oh, and we have a bazillion stroller liners that are NOT online so if you live in the area and want to come by, you can see our collection here in the store...sorry everyone else, I hope to update that part of the website, but like I said, we've been so super busy!

In stroller news, the carry cot from Bumbleride has arrived and it is SO adorable! The picture above is the carry cot on the Bumbleride Flyer in Vita...doesn't it look precious? The best part is the fact that the Indie Twin can take two carrycots for newborn baby twins! The mattress is nice and soft, and it is just enough room for baby to get cozy and dozy. It fits in all Bumbleride strollers except the Queen B (which of course we don't have yet...shhh. One day soon!)

Also, expected to arrive next week is the Maclaren Grand Tour. However, no real definites on that, but will keep you posted. If you don't know what the Grand Tour is, and most of you probably don't, stay tuned; all will be revealed in the coming weeks. I assure you that this might just be the years hottest stroller...

Take care until next time! Happy Strolling!

Maclaren, Baby!

So, I've been saying it for months, but now it's finally true! Strolling in Style is finally Maclaren's newest retailer! We are proud to carry the original buggy from England!

Let me speak for a moment on Maclaren strollers. Maclarens are known for their lightweight frames and classic style. Adding a Maclaren Triumph or Quest to your stroller collection is a great idea for quick trips around town, or for traveling! A Techno XT or the luxurious Techno XLR would be more than ideal for your primary stroller! The Twin Techno XT is an amazing lightweight double! Also, a Maclaren stroller is also a great stroller for every stage of your child's development. Most are compatible from birth or three months, and will accomodate up to 65 lbs; simply amazing, since Maclaren's heaviest single stroller weighs in at just 16.3 lbs! The picture shown here are the Maclaren's in our showroom! Check out the Maclaren collection on our website as well, http://www.strollinginstyle.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_218!

In other news, the majority of the Bumbleride '09 Collection has arrived! We are still missing the Carry Cots and Snack Packs, but the strollers are in the store and looking fabulous! The '09 Indie in Orange Spice is dressed in a daisy green liner by B and V kids (find it in the dress up my ride section). The backrest on the Indie has been upgraded for '09, in addition to the harness and the streamlined canopy. Next, the Ruby Flyer for '09 is here on the floor. The '09 Flyer features an updated canopy and harness as well. The same great Bumberide features such as the reversible handle, full recline and adjustable footrest have stayed the same! Also, the Ruby color features a beautiful beige falling leaf patten in the lining. You can check out pictures of these strollers on our facebook page! Also, while you are there, you can become a fan!

We have had a bit of interest in the Bumbleride Queen B lately, so look for it in our showroom soon. Speaking of adding strollers to our collection, if anyone has any ideas, if you love a stroller or wish we carryed it, please let us know. Your opinion matters!

Also, I wanted to thank our customers for their patience! Accessories and Gifts galore!

I feel like things are always changing here, every day is something new and different!

In accessory news, our latest and greatest accessory is the brand new Carry You snack trays! The Carry You snack trays fit on all strollers with a front safety bar including Bugaboo, Uppababy, Phil and Teds, and Icoo! I have heard many complaints from customers about how "Bugaboo's don't have snack trays!" I knew there was such a demand for this product that allows moms to feed their kids on the go. What a cool product, Carry You! Carry You also makes innovative stroller organizers and other stroller accessories.

Also, we have the most beautiful gifts on the floor now. The Mia Belle Baby bunny is a plush bunny that features a posh Fleur de Lis stroller clip on one side and pacifier holder. A perfect gift for the baby who has everything! Another gorgeous option for a gift are the all new Blankeyclips. Blankeyclips are plush dog, bunny or ducks that are also used to clip a blanket to a stroller so it doesn't fall off! Furthermore, Blankeyclips come with their own beautiful fleece blankey!

Here at Strolling In Style, your opinion matters! We love feedback, so if there is anything you think we should carry and don't, please email us or give us a buzz and let us know !

Stroller Addicts Anonymous

Ok, so I never really considered myself to be a stroller addict until last night...

I was sitting with my husband on a date night (without my baby, mind you) and we're at this Greek festival with all these sights, sounds and smells and all I can do is sit and look at good looking, sleek, beautiful strollers walking by me!

I oohed and ahhed when I spotted it. The Red Phil and Teds Dash with doubles kit in the front position. The stroller looked sleek and modern on the street, a pleasure to push...really, but completely un-bulky, like some inline rides...the stroller looked awesome. As smooth as water falling over rocks. The baby in it looked comfortable and happy...of course if you were sitting in that ride you would be too! Believe me, if you would have seen this stroller on the street, you probably would have fallen in love like I did.

Then not two seconds later I turn to find a Bumbleride flyer in Spice (orange with teal lining). What a cute stroller on the street! Lightweight, but full service with the reversible handle allowing you to see your baby! The mom in question had the handle in the front facing position so she was able to look at her little one. Also, she had linked toys onto the safety bars. Baby in question wasn't sitting in the stroller but happily munching on the handle!

Of course, it wasn't two seconds later that I turned around and saw the beloved Bugaboo! The Dark Brown based Bugaboo Cameleon was in Bassinet form and was dressed (unusual for a chilly night) in a pink breezy canopy! I wasn't able to catch a glimpse of the little baby girl laying bundled and sleeping soundly on the comfy air flow mattress.

Well that was my fun night out, stroller watching. I wish I had taken pictures so you all could see these buggys out and about (reminder to take my camera wherever I go!) Also, if you ever happen to see a really cool ride, you can shoot me some pictures too and send them to info@strollinginstyle.com. I would love to see what you find!

I'll write more on my adventures in Strollerland, now that I am a full blown member!

Also, you can read this article about how to realize that you are a stroller addict and what to do if you are! I love this article, especially the end where the author spells out how many strollers a person should have so as not to turn your garage into a veritable stroller graveyard.

1) Full service ride for every day- parks, malls, walks
2) Lightweight, umbrella style- quick trips, airports
3) Jogger- exercise, fairs...

Just read the article, it's great! Take care until next time!

What an Exciting Time!

Yesterday we were setting up our new Bob display and had a blast changing a few of the other displays around. Hopefully, I will get a chance to post some new pictures of the displays on the facebook page. If you havn't checked out our facebook page (Strolling In Style), please do because it's a great way to see pictures of the interior of the store.

The Bob display looks really great! We've got the weather shields, sun shields and even the Stroller Strides fitness kits (for those fit mama's out there!) Along with the car seat adaptors and handlebar consoles, you can completely outfit your Bob at Strolling In Style!

We are also working on our new Grand Opening flyer that will be running our new in-store promotion...shh...can't tell you what it is yet, you'll have to wait and see the new flyer! I should have one posted up here soon!

It is so wonderful to have such nice people come into the store who are expecting new little bundles in the Spring or Summer. What a fun and exciting time it is for you as a couple! Shopping for a stroller is a part of that excitement and I am so glad to be helping people make the right decisions and assisting them in finding the right stroller for them! I certainly remember how exciting it was for me (and I'm sure you moms of toddlers or older children out there do too!) For those of you we have met in person, we are so happy to have had you in the store and look forward to assisting you in the future! For those of you we have not met yet, please come by and see us!

Finally, an update!

Whoa, how busy things have been since the new year! Between the store, website and baby, there is not much time for anything else!

We are so excited to have the Phil and Teds Dash in stock now! The Phil and Teds Dash, the smooth double shot to go, is an inline stroller with the no-fuss mama style!
